VETASSESS has announced that the assessment criteria for the four professional occupations:

  • Teacher of English to Speakers of other Languages
  • Hotel Service Manager
  • Retail Buyer
  • Hotel or Motel Manager

VETASSESS – ANZSCO OCCUPATION – 249311 – TEACHER OF ENGLISH TO SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES


VETASSESS NEW CRITERIA (QUALIFICATION) From 21 June 2021

1. AQF Bachelor degree in a highly relevant field of study (e.g. Education with TESOL method);

OR

2. AQF Bachelor degree in an unrelated field of study;

PLUS

A suitable TESOL qualification*, at least at AQF Certificate IV level or a CELTA, which contains TESOL as a method.

(Group A)

*A TESOL qualification results from a program of study having all of the following characteristics:

    • »  no less than 100 contact hours, or the equivalent in online/ distance education programs, with a clear focus on teaching English as a second/additional language;
    • »  a practical component including at least six hours practice teaching in TESOL to actual students (not to classmates), supervised and assessed by a teacher who is qualified as per these requirements

NEW CRITERIA (EMPLOYMENT) From 21 June 2021

1. AQF Bachelor degree in a highly relevant field of study (e.g. Education with TESOL method) plus at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment undertaken in the last five years.

OR

2. With a non-related AQF Bachelor degree plus a suitable TESOL qualification plus at least three years of post-qualification highly relevant employment undertaken in the last five years.

NEW CRITERIA (EMPLOYMENT) From 21 June 2021

1. AQF degree in a highly relevant field of study (e.g. Education with TESOL method) plus at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment undertaken in the last five years.

OR

2. With a non-related AQF degree plus a suitable TESOL qualification plus at least three years of post-qualification highly relevant employment undertaken in the last five years.

VETASSESS – Additional qualifications in a highly relevant field of study include those comparable to the following levels:

  • AQF Diploma
  • AQF Advanced Diploma
  • AQF Associate Degree or
  • AQF Graduate Diploma

VETASSESS Highly relevant paid employment duration

(20 hours or more per week)

1-3 minimum years of employment highly relevant to the nominated occupation, completed at an appropriate skill level in the five years before the date of application for a Skills Assessment.

4 years of relevant employment required – three years of relevant employment (can be outside the last 5-year period) in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment within the last five years before applying.
