Importantly, if you intend to move to Tasmania for your Skilled visa 491 – PR pathway, you Need 6 months working in your occupation in TAS.
Your application for the visa are two separate processes, there are State Nomination and Visa Application.
Tasmanian Skilled Visa 491 state nomination
- SkillSelect EOI
Tasmania must be selected as your preferred location on the EOI.
- Occupation – Skills Assessment
Attach a copy of the current Skills Assessment
If you do not hold a passport issued by the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, United States of America, or Republic of Ireland attach a Competent English (dated within the last three years).
|International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
|At least 6 for each of the 4 components
|Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT)
|At least 12 for listening, 13 for reading, 21 for writing and 18 for speaking
|Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)
|At least 50 for each of the 4 components
|Occupational English Test (OET)
|At least B for each of the 4 components
|Cambridge C1 Advanced test
|At least 169 in each of the 4 components
- Commitment to Tasmania statement
If you are not currently living in Tasmania or recently moved, explain in your own words, in no more than two pages, why you want to live in Tasmania for at least two years from date of permanent arrival, and what you believe you can contribute to the Tasmanian economy, community and way of life.
- Work Experience
Attach your up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume which clearly states personal details, educational qualifications and work experience to date.
Overseas applicants TAS VISA 491 Nomination
If you have received an offer of employment attach evidence of this offer – such as an employment contract or a formal letter of employment.
Or, if there is no employment offers, it must be clear that you have enough recent experience in your nominated occupation to be employable in Tasmania.
Non- Overseas applicants TAS VISA 491 Nomination
- Living in Tasmania
If you are not an overseas applicant attach bank statements to demonstrate that you are currently living in Tasmania. The statements must show activity such as ATM withdrawals and evidence of income or shopping expenditure.
- Financial capacity
Attach your signed Declaration of Financial Capacity to show that you have access to sufficient financial resources to fund your settlement in Tasmania (click here for the form). Your signature on the Declaration of Financial Capacity must be witnessed by an authorised person.
Three Pathway for TAS visa 491 Nomination
First way – Working in Tasmania

- You must attach 6 months of payslips and bank statements showing evidence of salary payments and deposits from your employer.
Second way – Family in Tasmania
- Family/Relationship evidence
Third way – Small Business Owner
- Business ownership
- your business operation for at least 6 months, including business registration certificate, ABN / ASIC registration, business bank statements and GST Business Activity Statements
- Evidence to show that your business is sufficiently profitable to give you a personal income that will meet the income requirement for the subclass 191 visa (currently $53 900 for at least 3 out of 5 years)
